Mainstream Measurements Ltd is the UK manufacturer of the MAINSTREAM area-velocity flowmeters, loggers and transmitters for open channels and part-filled pipes. Mainstream’s product range is noted for high performance, reliability and is cost competitive. A key feature of our approach to sensor design is recognizing the need for built-in sensor integrity monitoring or self-diagnostics. Areas of particular expertise are: low-power electronics; signal processing; novel algorithms and ultrasonics. Tony Dove joins MAINSTREAM MEASUREMENTS LTD as Operations Director

Addingham, West Yorkshire –  MAINSTREAM announced that effective from 30th April Tony Dove will join the company as the Operations Director. Tony will be instrumental in developing and enhancing Mainstream’s flowmeter portfolio, along with managing all aspects of the engineering and design.

Tony brings 30 years worldwide experience of high tech industries, including digital health, consumer electronics, telecommunications and industrial control systems.  He is highly skilled in stakeholder management, technology transfer, new product development and budget preparation and monitoring.

Tony holds PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner, is a Chartered Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and has B.ENG (Hons) from Bradford University.

“We are very excited that Tony has joined the company, his leadership positions and vast experience in electronics, telecommunications and industrial control systems will allow Mainstream to grow organically and achieve its goals for the future.” said Bev Bruce, Managing Director of Mainstream Measurements Ltd.

Tony stated “I am delighted to be joining Mainstream Measurements and look forward to meeting both customers and suppliers in the near future.”

We are leaders in open channel flow measurement, using ultrasonic technology. The Mainstream flowmeter product range was borne out of the R & D company Croma Developments, a company founded in 1986. Croma was developed as a vehicle for transferring academic research results into commercial applications. The company is now concerned with research, development and design of instrumentation with a heavy emphasis on embedded micro-processors.

  • Remote data collection project to open new doors for flowmeter firm
    12 April 2018

Remote data collection project to open new doors for flowmeter firm

Mainstream Measurements Ltd has formed a £120,000 Knowledge Transfer Partnership
(KTP) with the University of Huddersfield to develop software and communication
mechanisms that will allow the meters to be read remotely, as well as integrate into
standardised industrial control systems, such as MODBUS.

The breakthrough will be a massive advantage for companies involved in applications such as effluent monitoring, water distribution, industrial flow and water distribution, who need to monitor flow in order to deal with issues such as blockages and flood risks.

The challenge of the KTP is that there is no dominating data communication protocol in the
Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure, and this is particularly true within the water industry, using a cellular infrastructure would be costly and consume too much power, which is highly detrimental to devices running on battery power in remote areas.

The LoRaWAN communication protocol could be the answer, and this is being investigated
by the KTP. It is also expected that the KTP will help Mainstream boost its R&D capacity and add software engineering to its range of expertise.
